We have forgotten the lessons of Vietnam more than we know

I hope citizens will be shocked that the Defense Department is spying on peace activists, but we've certainly forgotten how the FBI spyed against both antiwar protest groups and civil rights activists back in the '60s and '70s.

Paranoia is the root of this kind of abuse. It's never helped our nation, and it never will. It's odious.

Though the theme of my blog is rising up against a New Normal we should never tolerate, this abuse of power is definitely the reemergence of the Old Normal under J. Edgar Hoover and Richard Nixon.

More links to this story and to its past abuses as I can find them.
